This garnet-hued classic cocktail holds a special place in our hearts.

Sometimes all you want is the classic. We’ve spent months riffing on some of our favorites, but I think it’s about time to start honoring the originals. Why start with the Negroni? Because it holds a special place in our cocktail history. It was our wedding cocktail – the only cocktail on the menu. At our small North Loop wedding (ceremony on our apartment rooftop with a view of the city skyline and reception downstairs in the gorgeous community space), we kept things simple: wine, beer, and Joshua’s first batched cocktail. We also had Brasa cater (yes, that is totally unrelated to cocktails, but honestly, people still rave about our food choice!).

I will never not love a Negroni. And, because it now carries with it such fond memories, we’ll share one with you – our wedding vows. You’ll have to figure out who said what for yourselves, but here you go:

I promise
To be honest
To be trusting
To take things seriously
To see the lighter side of things
To support you in whatever you choose to do
To bring you socks when your feet get cold
To not tell anyone that it takes you longer to get ready than me in the morning. Oops.
To cherish you
To love you and Addison
To work on things
To make things work
To be the big spoon
To be the little spoon
I take you
To be my husband
To be my wife
In sickness and in health
For better or worse
Until death do us part
And if either one of us breaks these promises
I promise to forgive, and move on with our lives
Together
